Abstract

The study aims to identify ideal formula of clay compositionas the main material of functional ceramics produced in cylindrical and non-cylindrical shapes with the hand and feet rotating techniques.The rotating technique has some limitations because it cannot be employed in the making of non-cylindrical shapes.Even worse that the existing rotating techniques have failed to produce high-quality ceramics as demanded by consumers. Preciseness ofsize, shapes, and thickness of ceramic wall is a great concern and thus it is necessary to have the analysis of technical aspects and raw materials.The ceramic products from Pagerjurang have attracted many foreign consumers. The products have to meet the specified standard of quality including thematerial,model/shape, size, and timeliness of order accomplishment. Reproduction technique is the appropriate solution to have the desired shapes, sizes, and thickness of ceramic wall. Manual experiments are required to test the quality of clay whilelaboratory testing is needed to test the chemical elements.The ideal formula of clay composition as the main material of ceramic products in Pagerjurang will enable ceramic reproduction through single casting, multiple casting, and slip castingso that the expected export quality standard can be met.In this way, the preciseness of shape, size, and thickness of ceramic wall as well as diversified non-cylindrical products requested by consumers can be ensured. Thus it will provide better economic advantages for the ceramic artisans in Pagerjurang.Key words:ceramic of pagerjurang,reproduction technique

Abstract

The art craft is one of the traditional arts that could be used as an expression medium foranybody. With its capacity as an art filled of local genius, the art craft keep changing in everyaspect, including on creating process and the medium has been used. Combination betweentechnique and proper medium will create the art craft that capable to fulfill the world’s needand demand. Craftsman capability to manage the medium, understanding it, createdinnovatively and to be able to see society’s phenomenon will definitely generate responsiblywork of art. Abstract

Finishing is the final stage of the work process of making wood products, includingthe provision of certain materials, to embellish, visually highlight and protect the wood surface.Wood products would be more attractive when finished to the right. Realize an attractiveappearance finishing something very important, therefore there is need for a new discovery forwood finishing materials.Herbs as a natural material potential for wood products finishing materials. Inaddition to friendly environment, plants are also easy to obtain. Plants of various types can beprocessed and used as a wood finishing material, either as a basic dye, a mixture of dyes, aswell as the final finishing. In these experiments conducted on turmeric, gum gambier, betelleaves, sticks henna, mangosteen rind, skin jengkol, and injet for coloring wood.Through experimental research, with the wet technique and the results indicate sapgambier saffron color the best, producing the yellow color of turmeric, gambier and injet sapproduces a red color maroon. The maximum color is produced in addition to the basic materialcontaining pigment is good, as well as precise materials processing techniques, as well asabsorption of the pigments are also good timber. Meanwhile, the color produced by betelleaves, sticks henna, mangosteen rind, skin jengkol, less than the maximum. It is based on theassumption of researchers due to lack / incompatibility processing techniques such materials.Keywords: finishing, wood, natural materials.

Abstract

This study to look at the changes the meaning of Singo Barong in the context of the past asunderstood by the public Cirebon in the present. In the time, the train experienced a period oftransit which to change the context in which the material or object of art will have meaning.As a result of the frequent occurrence of changes in the context of the meanings are oftensubject to change. It is an art object in transition, experiencing a change of meaning as aresult of changes in context. Change of meaning will evoke an emotional response whencrossing cultural boundaries.Reading of documents or artifacts that are relevant necessary to achieve a deeper meaningand detail. Therefore anthropological perspective that links production and consumption ofartifacts are not separated from the question of the culture, politics, religion and others.Borrowing the theory of "processual relativism" Svasek will bring an understanding of the artmaterial in a different time and space. At least not with borrowed this theory will be obtainedthe values behind the train characteristics. By finding the characteristics at a certain time andspace will be acquired meaning, then what meaning it will be reviewed and compared. Suchway of thinking is more easy to see the socio-cultural change at both the pattern of thought orsocial institutions Kasepuhan Cirebon palace.Singo Barong train its existence is equivalent to other objects stored in the MuseumKasepuhan Cirebon, such as gamelan, batik cloth, weapons, and so forth. Artifacts have thesame weight value when used as a tool in the ritual. But the context has a different meaning,is associated with the constituent. From time to time, the meaning is changed, both in socialand cultural areas. Abstract

The study of batik in the batik centers of Giriloyo and Wijirejo Bantul is intended to develop the existing motifs of batik mbantulan and create new motifs while maintain the identity of batik mbantulan with its local-rich characteristics in Kabupaten Bantul. The development of batik mbantulan has undergone the rising and falling trend. To survive and develop artisans of batik mbantulan have to adapt themselves to the ongoing market preference through the improved characteristics of batik mbantulan. It is necessary to explore the possible existing motifs of batik mbantulan that have brought up the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo have. The motifs of batik mbantulan have to be reserved in the batik products through identification, diversification, and creation of new batik mbantulan motifs, Therefore, the new designs is expected to be more competitive in batik market and create the spirit of creativity and innovativeness among the artisans of batik mbantulan in the Batik Center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo Bantul. The main obstacles that the artisans in the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo have to face up is the meeting of consumers’ orders with their new motifs. The artisans are not capable enough to create new designs through the development of mbantulan motifs and prefer to work on the present and general motifs of batik Yogyakarta. The study is expected to deal with the artisans’ problem in creating new designs / motifs and improve their capacity to make new creative and innovative designs to meet consumers’ desired standard. In turn, this will lead to a better economic prospect for the artisans of batik mbantulan in the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo. Key words: batik mbantulan, artisans, motifs

Abstract

This eksperiment attempts to solve common problems faced in ceramic finish, finishingceramic objects have differences to resolve other matters. Glaze is a type of glass coating thatis applied to coat the ceramic objects, this is an interesting layer to be studied, because thesuccess glaze applications in ceramics is influenced by many factors. Applications glaze onceramic objects have a very high level of difficulty, the difficulty seen in glaze formulas,application techniques, firing temperature, shrinkage of dry matter and the successfulachievement of color after glaze the combustion process. This research is to determine whetherthe clay character has an influence on the success rate of the color will appear. The problemsolving method uses the experimental method, this method is considered more appropriate todetermine the level of success of an experiment relating to material containing chemicalelements.Clay used is a type of stoneware clay has five classes of characters, clay are as follows:1. Pacitan soil, wet soil has a reddish color, 2. Singkawang soil, wet soil has a whitish colour, 3.Sukabumi is a brightly colored ground, wet floor is a beige, with 4. Sukabumi, the dark ground,wet soil has a dark brown color, 5. Bojonegoro soil, wet soil has a light brown color. color Glazefive characters shall be applied on the surface of clay are: 1. young Greens, 2. Pink, 3. Greenishblue, 4. Brown 5. Dark blue.Character clay is relatively large contribution to the emergence of color glaze inaccordance with the wishes or the plan, especially when using a formula based on the glossyglaze. Glaze formula will tend to be stable when there is a combination of stain with a glazeoxide, stable formula can also be found on the matt glaze, because it glaze was close or nottransparent. coloring oxides are very sensitive to the character of soil temperature change iscobalt and fe ,experiment that required in advance if the formula contains two types of oxideglaze. Abstract

Hermeneutics as an object of study is a means of understanding the ”actual” as old ashuman beings age on this earth. Hermeneutics is very important in the process of humaninteraction, so the study was conducted to study the hermeneutics in his position as a scienceof interpretation that can be studied in ontological, epistemological, and axiological. As ascience, hermeneutics emerged as a dominant movement in European Protestant theologywhich states that hermeneutics is a focal point of the current theological issues.Associated with his position as a science, the study was conducted to determinehermeneutics in the concept of etymology and terminology, knowing on historically with thefigures who pioneered the science of it, his position as a theory of interpretationmultidisciplinary, as well as the position and function as a historiographical approach throughphilological approach.Keywords: hermeneutics, the theory of interpretation, and text.

Abstract

A religious traditional art in society is related to myth which can be categorized intofolktale. This tradition has been often become one in the Javanese mind and influential ingiving direction to their lives. Concerning with myth is inseparable from people’s believed. Thepeople believe which is appearing is usually established on the basis of a tale or story, which isdescendant from the local people and unwritten but believed by the society so that it becomestradition and culture encouragement. One of Indonesian ancestors’ heritages is leather puppetwhich can be enjoyed by us until now, although the form and the development conform to thedevelopment of the present modern world.Myth of the leather puppet in Javanese people themselves has been an icon, becausethe leather puppet it selves becomes myth which unified with tradition as well as Javanesepeople culture. So, other myth follows the leather puppet myth. One of the existing myths insociety are the myth’s appearances of human’s skin puppet, mainly a traditional art of leatherpuppet the material of which is believed to be created from human’s skin.Kedakan village located in the slope of Merbabu valley which is remote and far fromthe city. Because of its remote location, this place leave culture heritage of the preservedancestor’s tradition, such as human’s skin puppet. The appearing myth in the human skinpuppet is that of believed that the puppet is created from human’s skin, therefore, the puppetis considered holy and highly respected. The sacredness of the puppet appears, since manymisterious and illogical things happened related to the sacred puppet frequently. The mythwhich are still being preserved enables this leather puppet art in the remote village ever lastingand the existence is still being nurtured.Key words: Leather Puppet, Human Skin, and Myth
